Felicia Ross is an associate professor in the School of Communication.  For almost 10 years, she has taught courses on Crime & the News Media, and Stereotypes in the Media. The crime course deals with the way the media constructs crime and criminal justice through its representations of crimes, offenders, victims, and law enforcement. The stereotypes course draws connections between media stereotyping and criminal racial profiling. Her research overall focuses on the relationship between the media and African Americans, and her most recent focus is on how historical Black newspapers have represented the African American experience. Although most of her research projects have not directly involved crime and criminal justice, there is evidence that these newspapers provide perspectives different from mainstream, daily newspapers.
