- Abstract:
- This project represents the first stage of an expected long-term collaborative research program between Ohio State faculty and CHOICES, the first domestic violence shelter and service program in Central Ohio. There are four objectives for the first stage. First, researchers will evaluate and systematize data for analysis. Data come from client and program records of CHOICES; they include shelter records, crisis phone logs, counseling records, and outreach programs. Second, researchers will evaluate cutting-edge theoretical and policy approaches to interpersonal violence (IPV) and empirical studies of effective practices to meet victim needs such as risk/danger assessment and safety planning, health issues, socioeconomic factors, and the impacts of different types of services and policies. This objective will include attention to how the construction of battered women in scholarly and programmatic discourses is related to service and policy decisions. Third, the researchers will develop an integrated conceptual framework, identify priority research problems for subsequent analysis, develop a reasonable plan and focus for future research, and draft funding proposals to seek support for research. Fourth, researchers will collaborate with CHOICES on planned revisions of both their data collection practices/instruments and risk assessment instruments.
